Today, this walk\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">is within the reach of many people used to walking ( <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/gorges-agia-irini-2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agia Irini gorge. Picture<\/a>. If you choose the difficult route, off the marked path, beware of falling rocks.  For all the walks, when possible, I personally prefer to go downstream, and at the end of the walk, sit on a terrace by the water and ... stop time. It's a well-deserved reward. I have a soft spot for this hike, especially for its (<a href=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/gorges-agia-irini-6.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agia Irini gorge. And at the exit, the snack bar \"Oasis\" to recover your strength and refresh yourself.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_15609\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15609\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/gorges-agia-irini.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Agia Irini Gorge, Chania, Crete\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/gorges-agia-irini-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Agia Irini Gorge, Chania, Crete\" width=\"200\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15609\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Agia Irini Gorge, Chania, Crete<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>On the way back, we walk along the bed of the torrent, cross the bridge, and join the main road towards Sougia. This part of the walk is a bit painful if you can't stand the sun. You can try to hitchhike when you reach the main road, otherwise the last km seems endless... Otherwise, we can order a taxi to take you to Sougia <span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">or to go back up to the entrance of the gorges and collect your car.\u00a0<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/sougiataxi-meletis.gr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/sougiataxi-meletis.gr\/<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>If you start early in the morning, you cross the gorge and arrive, without hurrying, in Sougia around noon. At 6.15 pm you take the bus from Sougia to Chania, which stops at the entrance of the gorge and you collect your car.<\/p><figure id=\"attachment_10617\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10617\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sougia-crete-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Sougia, Crete\" src=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sougia-crete-4-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"Sougia, Crete\" width=\"260\" height=\"143\" data-wp-editing=\"1\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10617\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sougia, Crete<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Finally, there is the possibility of using the boat link that connects the southern part of the county of Chania, namely: Paleochora, <a href=\"https:\/\/alpha-omegaonline.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/sougia-crete.jpg\">Sougia<\/a>, Agia Roumeli, Loutro, Chora Sfakion, to go to another village in the south.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>A variant is to come to Sougia by boat and go upstream through the gorge.\u00a0<\/p><p>The village of Sougia, is a village built on the site of the port of the ancient city of Elyros.
