What driving licence do I need in Greece?
A national driving licence for EU nationals. For others, an international licence.

At what age can you rent a car?
The minimum age, free of charge, is 25 and the maximum 72. Between the ages of 20 and 25 and over 72, there is an additional insurance premium.

Which credit card?
To pay for the rental, use a credit card, Visa, Mastercard or other credit card. For the deposit, an imprint of your card will be taken until the vehicle is returned, but your account will not be debited.

When should you book?
As early as possible to get good prices. At the last minute and especially in high season, it will be more difficult and more expensive.

Why not have a 4×4 in Greece?
It's not necessary. Firstly, it is much more expensive and much less comfortable. Secondly, roads are generally in good condition and tarmac. And above all, avoid off-piste riding because of the risk of damage, which is not covered by insurance.

Change island?
Quand on est en Grèce, c’est tentant de prendre le ferry avec la voiture de location, pour visiter d’autres îles. Sauf accord du loueur, ceci n’est pas autorisé pour des questions de dégâts possibles pendant la traversée, des questions d’assurance, sans parler des conséquences d’une  panne ou d’ un accident sur une autre île. Par ailleurs, ce n’est pas une solution économique. Le coût de la traversée d’une voiture en ferry est trop élevé. Il vaut mieux rendre la voiture et en louer une autre à la prochaine destination.

Check the condition of the vehicle
When you take delivery of the vehicle, if there are any dents or scratches, ask for them to be noted in the contract. And why not take a few photos in case of a dispute later on.

Use "Premium", "Gold", "Platinium" credit cards ...
Souvent ces cartes offrent une assurance pour la location de voitures à l’étranger, et, parfois, la prise en charge d’une franchise éventuelle, en cas de dégâts sur le véhicule. Renseignez vous avant de partir en Grèce. En tout cas, il est conseillé d’utiliser ces cartes pour toute location (avion, bateau, voiture etc) ainsi que pour les achats importants. Des nombreux avantages y sont associés que beaucoup ignorent.

Adding a GPS?
Pas nécessaire et surtout coûteux. Actuellement les opérateurs téléphoniques permettent l’utilisation, à l’intérieur de l’UE, d’une partie ou de la totalité des datas, prévus dans vos forfaits nationaux.  Et si vous n’avez pas de tels forfaits, pour éviter les frais d’itinérance, vous pouvez télécharger une carte à l’avance, lorsque vous êtes connecté au wifi, afin de pouvoir naviguer sur place, sans dépenser d’argent.

What to do in case of an accident?
In the event of an accident, injury, hit-and-run or dispute, call the emergency number 112. At the same time, request the presence of the police (112 or 100), and don't forget to inform the rental agency, whose telephone number is on the contract. Finally, use your smartphone to take a few shots, particularly of the number plates.
